Einarsen-DePaul Final

I have created an advertisement for the CDM School with the emphasis on pixels. Everything involved in the various CDM majors involve pixels. I decided to have a quote with a double meaning. “Pixel Yourself Here” can be taken literally or someone can read it as “Picture Yourself Here.” The quote makes one think twice about the banner and look at it longer.
I decided to create a banner that is 20 feet tall by 35 feet long. I like the long horizontal length. Because I was only able to take ten pictures of students, I wanted to keep the banner proportional as well. Even though my design will not cover the entire brick wall, I think it is large enough to catch people’s eyes. The pixelated circles that are bright and exaggerated along with the length resulted in a price of $1,645.00 from AllstateBanners.com.

I used Illustrated to create the majority of the banner. I created triangular pixilated images from the original six photos on Photoshop. I duplicated each image 3 times and transformed them 45 degrees and -45 degrees in order to create the triangle shape. After I made the shape of the pixels I used the mosaic filter on the pixilated imaged. In illustrated I made the opacity of the original image at 60%. I did this in order for the pixilated clipping masked circles could stand out.
The target audience of my banner is the prospective students of DePaul or other Universities. Although the target audience is students, parents may also look at this and find it appealing for their children to look into. I used actual faces for a more personal sense of CDM. The words College of Computing and Digital Media could be self-explanatory and that is why I wanted to incorporate student’s faces. Because the general age of the target audience is actually on the banner, this also helps in grabbing the attention of potential CDM students.

Nicolle Rezwin- CDM Ad Campaign Final Critique

The name of my campaign is called the My CDM Campaign.  Each advertisement would have a saying such as “My CDM is about…” and would represent what the CDM college is all about. There would also be pictures that go with each saying about the CDM.  For the North-facing wall of the CDM building, I will have a 20 feet tall by 30 feet wide vinyl poster. I contacted signs.com and they said the cost of the poster itself is $3300. If  DePaul wants to create other posters for the campaign, the cost would $2.75 per square foot. The Installation cost would depend on where the poster would be located and when DePaul would go ahead with this poster. For the My CDM campaign, I chose to have the saying, “My CDM is about taking advantage of the city.” The medium is a vinyl poster and I created this poster in Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop.  The audience that I am trying to reach in my advertisement is prospective students coming to the College of Computing and Digital Media. These students take advantage of the city by using the city as a tool to achieve their career goals.
The five advertisements above heavily influenced my approach and the feeling I want to convey to my audience. In the first ad by Roosevelt University, I really liked how they used the city of Chicago as an advertisement to come to Roosevelt. I wanted my advertisement to use the city as a reason to come to the CDM as well. I used a silhouette of the city skyline because I wanted the image to be simple and to explain itself. Before, I had an actual picture of the city of Chicago, but I thought it made my advertisement too busy.  The current picture was taken from the window of my on campus apartment at DePaul. I used the curves tool in illustrator to make it a silhouette. The second advertisement heavily influenced my design as well. The first time I saw this university advertisement I quickly compared it to DePaul. The ad shows all the cool stuff you can do at the university that is outside of the classroom. With DePaul being in the city, I wanted my slogan to convey the message that coming to DePaul and specifically the CDM. Like this university, the CDM has so many opportunities for its students. These include internship and job opportunities, networking, and many art and culture activities to visit and view. A University on a regular campus cannot say that they took a field trip to the art institute for a class or go to the Chicago Cultural center for an assignment. They also do not have amazing opportunities. In the third and fourth advertisements, I liked how the pictures inside the person. I wanted to have the same concept for my poster. I chose to have a picture of my face and the city inside my face because I wanted to show that the city is a part of me and I take advantage of every opportunity the city has to offer.  Lastly, I used the Blackhawks advertisement because I liked how their slogan was simple and to the point. I wanted my advertisement slogan to be clear and concise as well.

cdm final design and essay-Laudenslager

This design was inspired by a potential advertisement for the DePaul CDM building. I used illustrator to create a smaller sized version of what it would look like. This was done in late November of winter quarter.
The design would eventually be a print, which would be on a vinyl canvas and hung on the side of the DePaul CDM building. I used illustrator to make a smaller version of the 20 by 40 foot sign. The specific subject is DePaul prospective students. This advertisement would be for them, to get their attention and convince them to attend DePaul University. It could also be for parents, transfer students or those wishing to further their education. Basically anyone who was interested in computer science programs. Elements within the design include three icons, which represent some popular majors within CDM, and ranking facts about DePaul’s programs.
This project doesn’t have a personal feeling to it, I do attend DePaul CDM but it isn’t entirely personal. I wanted the design to be simple and effective so that when people looked at it they knew they were looking at an ad for DePaul for the computer design school. I think this work is a little boring compared to others that I have done, but I think that is what DePaul would want in terms of advertising. They want to appeal to everyone. I did take some influence from the designs of the new Sprint Network. They had a very simple design process, which included one color, text and their symbol. I liked their idea because they were able to make it personal and relatable with minimal design work.

The purpose of this design is to attract students to the CDM school. Since this is on the side of the building I wanted it to be related to anyone walking by. I think complicated designs wouldn’t be looked at as much, or understood. Advertising is complicated in the fact that it needs to be understood by a lot of people. I think this project was successful. I wanted to show how good CDM is considered among rankings within other colleges with computer programs. I think DePaul is overlooked many times because not many people know about the CDM school. I think in this sense it is strong, because the type and simple design clearly show this point. Weaknesses could be that the design is too simple or has too much text, but I think these could also be strong points depending on how you look at it. Overall I think the project is successful and I enjoy it.
