Without any information other than the name of Stefan Sagmeister's exhibit at the Chicago Cultural Center, I was able to have an understanding of what the art exhibit would entail. Sagmeister's approach to happiness was very personal and detailed.
I appreciated that he used yellow and black throughout the exhibit leaving the typography to create a personality of happiness. Happiness can be an ambiguous topic, but I think Sagmeister created an accurate overall happy energy throughout the exhibit.
I felt like Sagmeister was asking me personal questions and the art felt real. The exhibit was an original and engaging representation of happiness. Through humor and witty sayings, I had a smile on my face the whole time I was there. I liked how Sagmeister used a lot of words and little pictures. It made me think about how happy I really was without many images affecting my thought process about happiness. I really loved the different perspectives and angles of life where Sagmeister found happiness.
In Graphic Design Thinking: Beyond Brainstorming, texturactiv identity is referenced. Image solution, expressing touch through site, and patterning are all important elements when using typography. Sagmeister represents the use of different styles of typography throughout his entire exhibit.
