1. Activity Cart Coordinator - 1 year
I was an activity cart coordinator at the Adler Planetarium for about a year in 2009-2010. It was a volunteer job, so no pay, but it was a great experience. Especially so because when I was there I was planning on studying astrophysics. The three objects I selected are the Carts, Tuscan Paninis, and Ice/Hot Paks. I did not dislike anyone in particular there, save for the occasional planetarium patron.
2. Salesman - <4 months
I worked for CutCo. and sold knives. I was that kid. I didn't have an hourly rate, but I was paid based on appointments I made. I earned $14 per appointment, I have no idea of the total money I earned from it. My boss was a despicable, coked-up man for whom I felt rather sorry. All in all, I spent less than four months at this job. My three associated objects are the Spatula Spreader, my Suit and Bowtie, and the "Homerun Set".
3. Clerk/Porter - 5 Months
I worked as a register jockey and a porter for about five months at Rolling Lanes, a bowling alley near my old house in LaGrange. This job paid me 9.50/hr, which was pretty nice at this point. I had and have known the lead mechanic at rolling lanes and the head bartender, as they are family friends of mine. On days in which I worked the register with those two doing their jobs, it was awesome. We got along well, etc. However, the weekends were the pits. League bowlers are some of the most entitled people I've ever seen. I was berated every shift by anyone and everyone. The only way it would have been worse is if I was female. My coworker was sexually harassed more times than I could count. She kept thick skin and wouldn't let it get to her, but I saw it happen and I hated it. Some objects I associate with this job are Bowling Balls, Beer, and Spoiled meat.
4. Barista - July to Present
Currently I work at Emerald City Coffee as a barista. I make minimum wage plus tips, which is fine for me (if you're good and quick at making people's morning coffee, they are generous with tips, so you learn fast). I absolutely love all my coworkers, we're all quirky and have good senses of humor, and we all love music. We have the regulars that come in on the daily, and the good majority of them are cool as well. Even the crazies that try to sneak in to proclaim Emerald City's fear of the military are somewhat entertaining in retrospect. The three objects I chose for this job are Apple Chaider, Brazil Santos (Vienna), and the Quick-Fix/Breakfast Taco (which is the ultimate quick breakfast combo).
