Analysis for Worst Job Project

In the project titled, The Worst Job Ever we each used Illustrator, Photoshop to compile photos we took ourselves and text from any articles, lyrics, or ourselves to create three different design solutions. On October 15th, the class had finished the third and final revision of our designs. The medium of this project was a digital projection using the program Illustrator to complete this project. The subject is the bagel restaurant that I work at, each piece focusing on bagels. Along with this, the secondary subject is the meat part of the job, which I used to explain the dislike for the job. The compositional elements in my piece are pictures of bagels and words that associate with how the bagels appear and are.
In my geometric composition, the diagonal lines creating the strong structure of the piece assist in the composition. I also used simple colors for the type and background for the pictures. There was simple text along both sides of the triangle and the graphics were limited. In my integrative piece I used a half split in my art board to compare ‘their preference’ to ‘my preference. I used vegetarian sandwich and the ingredients compared to the bacon and meat filled sandwich that others prefer. I repeated the design of one half of the design on the other side, replacing parts of the bagel and replacing different type next to the sandwich.
My deconstructive design does not have clear geometric proportions, though there is a distinction between the top and bottom type. I used many phrases and words about the bagel shop, overlapping type in the entire piece. I used over ten different typefaces and worked with them together using colors of meat and cool colors on the question mark. The images that I used were abstract and either looked like a cow or pig, and a question mark.
This work relates to me as a creator because of me being a vegetarian and also a designer. Because I am a vegetarian, I was able to accentuate the meaty and greasy characteristics of the bagel shop. I would say my work was more illustrated than many of the pieces and used more direct images of what my work involves. I bring experience in a food place to this project and can relate to the other pieces that used food and service examples in their designs.
I believe my purpose to this project was to explain that I am the minority in the food business, with most people wanting meat filled meal items while I feel like I want healthier options without meat and to know where I got everything in the sandwich from. I want people to understand that the places that are filled with a majority of meat cause me to enjoy my work less. On top of dealing with customers and making their food, having to handle and smell meat. I think the project was overall very successful and having three different revisions and my peers critique my work definitely helped improve the designs to reach their full potential.
