My Worst Job Ever
For the first project I had to
choose my worst job ever and design it by using Geometric form,
Deconstructive form, and Integrative form. The worst job that I
choose was my security job only because of the amount of people I
have to deal with and the chaos it can be. I been working in the
security job for almost four to five years now and it has its up and
downs. Some days it can go by fast and easy, but in other days it can
be long and bothersome. The materials I wanted to focused on were the
security vest I use, walkie talkies, and pepper spray.
- The first design I did was Geometric design and the materials I used were the people and the words salam in different languages. So for the first design Geometric the material I used were hand drawn people using the paint brush. Then I created a design using the rectangle tool to symbolize the people going through a line. For the words I had to use website materials in order to get the Arabic and Hebrew word for salam. For Geometric design I wanted to illustrate the people who I see who always get confused on where to go and end up going in the wrong direction. Also there are other non Muslim people who come to learn about Islam. I added them to also show how they also get lost. There’s also another secondary subject that I focused on and that is the language. I have in the composition repetitive word for salam in Arabic and the reason I wanted to design it that way is how I have to be repetitive in my job every time I see someone I have to say salam. For Geometric I wanted to show the unifying elements of the word salam in Arabic. Also I wanted to have it in a Geometric pattern of a square and have the people in a Geometric, straight line. The next design I did was Integrative. In this design I wanted to focused on the materials that I used in my job. So the vest is something that I have to wear and the walkie talkies is something that I wanted to incorporate into my integrative design. For this composition I drew out the different materials that I used such as the security shirt, and regular shirt. I wanted to compare the to when I wear my security clothes and when I don't. Basically when I wear my regular clothes when I'm not working I get no one asking me fore questions, but when I wear my security I get everyone. This composition is integrative because of the compare and contrast I am illustrating with the security shirt with the regular shirt, security hat with a normal hat, and a walkie talkies with a cell phone. The last design is Deconstructive. The materials I wanted to focus on was the pepper spray and and the incident that I experience during the job and wanted to design a composition incorporating the pepper spray as the main focus point. The specific subject of this composition is the pepper spray with the cop spraying the guy and getting the pepper spray all over the room. The pepper spray signifies my experience in dealing with the situation and the faces is the reaction of all the people that had to deal with the out come. I wanted to make this composition as chaotic as possible to bring it all back to the original design of having it being the cop spraying the guy, and all the people getting all disoriented. What makes it deconstructive is the over laying of words and the over laying of faces that make it hard to read.
- Working on this project I stayed pretty true to my self as a designer. I always try to design everything on my own and if its something that I can’t do then I will go and get it off the web or in another way. Also I try to stay away from color to much mainly because I don't know how to use it, but I think in some of the composition I use color in a safe way. Looking at the other designs in class I think a lot of the students chose to base the designs on images that they took from them selves, for example a picture of their dog. For some of the designs like the integrative everyone pretty much stayed in the same idea in comparing and contrast between to objects. I did not really base my design on another design or get influence by one, with the Integrative composition I took some influence from the class examples and thought about doing a compare and contrast of security and non security. My approach going with this assignment is incorporating all the ideas I learned from illustrator from previous classes and try to focus on making a strong composition to catch the audience eye.
- The purpose of this assignment was to create compositions that the audience could relate to and understand the subject matter of the design.
- Over all I think the composition I designed were fairly well designed. I think the colors, ideas, and creating the composition in an Integrative, Deconstructive, and Geometric form came out in a very strong composition.
