I don't know much about my family's ancestry. My immediate family is Mexican and Mexican-American.
List your religious affiliations and those of your ancestors, again, as far back as you have
knowledge?
My family call themselves "Catholic". My grandmothers are very religious and the rest of my family don't really practice any religion.
List holidays or days of remembrance that you celebrate in your family.
Christmas and Birthdays.
Do you identify with any of these for yourself? Describe.
I don't care much for ancestry so I've never felt the need to go in and do any investigation on my family tree. Unlike my family, I don't call myself Catholic. I am a Christian (Follower of Christ). I've always been "the outsider" in my family. Their identity doesn't appeal to me. The most I've taken from them is advice. I don't really spend time with my family besides my brother and mom. I identity with my mom and brother very much because we're a really tight small family.
Have you, or has anyone in your family, been harassed or victimized because of race, ethnicity, sex, sexual preference or religious affiliation? Describe.
No.
Do you identify with a given culture than is not addressed in the above questions? Describe.
I don't know what culture to identify myself with. I guess I'm all over the place. I take little things from everything that appeals to me.
Do you have friends that cross ethnic, race, religious, gender, or cultural barriers? Describe.
I've met all types of people and have made acquaintances with all kind of people. My close friends are all pretty much normal people. Nothing exciting.
Locate a situation of tension in the material generated from these questions. These can include
news, history, media, narrative, fiction and non-fiction.
An idea I have for this project is to show how diverse a person can be and how labels can really be almost claustrophobic and hard to live up to, without contradicting yourself. I'd like to make something that focuses on the ability of identifying with all cultures. Something along the lines of all Humanity being the same while still being able to have some individuality.
